If you're in charge of ordering polymers for R&D or production—and you're not a chemist—you know the drill: the spec sheet comes from the lab, the budget comes from finance, and you're stuck in the middle trying to make it work. Step 1: Separate the Sales Pitch from the Spec Sheet
Every supplier claims 'high performance' and 'consistent quality.' That's table stakes. What you actually need is on the technical data sheet (TDS) and the safety data sheet (SDS).
What to check:
- Does the TDS list solid content, viscosity, and application method? For a coating applicator bar, you'll need the wet film thickness range.
- Does the SDS match your site's handling requirements? Some polymers require specific ventilation or PPE that your team might not have.

- Who will notify you when stock is at 30%?
- What's the lead time for reorder? For a custom polymer, it could be 6-8 weeks.
- Can the supplier hold a minimum stock for you?

Common mistakes:
